Veranos de la Villa 23 June-28 August Puerta del Ángel (Casa de Campo) and Jardines de Sabatini This now emblematic Madrid music festival brings artists such as Beach Boys, Chicago, the Cuban singer Rubén Blades, Kool and the Gang and many more.	Fiestas de San Cayetano y San Lorenzo Feast days of St. Cayetano St. San Lorenzo 7-10 August La Latina and Lavapiés, Madrid St Cayetan’s feast day is on August 7; St. Lorenzo’s falls on the 10th. In between, the squares of Cascorro and Lavapiés become the city’s hot-spot with costumes, decoration and activities galore.	Fiestas de la Virgen de la Paloma Feast day of the Virgin of La Paloma 11-15 August La Latina, Madrid One of the most traditional festivities in the calendar of the city, the Virgin of La Paloma offers the perfect excuse for everyone to hit the roads of La Latina and cavort outdoors.

The message: what we preserve today will be the cultural legacy for future generations.
Carlos Endera: Un mundo feliz Carlos Endera: A Happy World Until September Casa de América, Paseo de Recoletos 2 Carlos Endera arrived in Panama at the age of 19, and lived in the Central American country for almost 70 years. These photographs show his vision of things in Panama City during the first half of the XX century.	Haití, 34 segundos después Haiti, 34 Seconds Later Until October CaixaForum, Paseo del Prado Striking images and crafty videos give an impression of the magnitude of the disaster that befell Haiti, immediately after it was hit by a devastating earthquake in December 2009.	Lygia Pape Until September Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía Anthology exhibition. Paintings, graphic works, installations, experimental film and performances were the chosen methods of expression of this Brazilian artist.

Until September Museo Reina Sofía, Calle de Santa Isabel 52 This artists first individual exhibition of this Portuguese artist in Spain, addresses the relationship between the body and the build space and decontextualization of architecture. 6€.	Polonia: Tesoros y Colecciones Artísticas Poland: Treasures and Art Collections Until September Palacio Real 190 artwork pieces from the 15th to 18th century. The exhibit includes furniture, sculpture, tapestries and paintings of artists such as Da Vinci and Rembrandt.
Elena Asins. Fragmento de la Memoria Elena Asins. Fragment of Memory Until 12 October Museo Reina Sofía, Calle de Santa Isabel 52 Considered one of the pioneers of computer assisted art. This exhibit showcases some of her best work. 6€.	Fortuny y el esplendor de la acuarela española Fortuny and the Splendor of Spanish Watercolors Until 4 September Museo del Prado 13 of his incredible watercolors together	El joven Ribera The Young Ribera Until 28 August Museo del Prado 30+ works from 1610-1622, during his time in Rome and Naples
Human Bodies Until October Pabellón XII del Recinto Ferial Casa de Campo, Avenida Portugal, S/N, Ever wonder what's exactly under our skin? This exhibit gives us a great opportunity to see the real human body and all its systems. 10€.	Eugène Atget. El viejo París Eugène Atget. The Old Paris Until 27 August Fundación Mapfre Vida. Recoletos, Paseo de Recoletos 25, Madrid This enigmatic French artist has inspired many countless photographers during the 20th century. In this exhibit we see his version of Paris, different to the Belle Epoque topics. Free entrance	Yayoi Kusama Until September Museo Reina Sofía, Calle de Santa Isabel 52 A monographic retrospective, offers a global vision of six decades of this Japanese artist's work, and shows 190 pieces of artwork of many different techniques: drawings, paintings, collages, sculptures, performances and much more.
Roma: Naturaleza e Ideal. Paisajes 1600-1650 Rome: Nature and Ideal. Landscapes 1600-1650 Until 25 September Museo del Prado This exhibition looks at the new forms of understanding landscape art during the early stages of the Classicist period in Rome.	Construir la revolución Building the Revolution Until 18 September CaixaForum, Paseo del Prado 36 Constructivism was meant to be the architecture of the Russian revolution, meant to make the Socialist ideals palpable in real life. Here is what it would all have looked like.

Julio Iglesias 2 August, 9:00 pm Gran Casino of Aranjuez, near Madrid The pop idol of Spain in the 1970s has never flailed at entertaining his faithful audience –particularly the female portion. He’s back in Spain, if you fancy it.	Dover 10 August, 10 pm Auditorio Municipal Parque Juan Carlos I Dover made its name in the ’90s with their rugged style and their lyrics in English language. In the wake of a project of reinvention, their performance should be nothing short of interesting.	Miguel Bosé 11 August, 10:30 pm Royal Monastery of El Escorial, near Madrid When it comes to Spanish music you cannot get more iconic than Miguel Bosé: irreverent, daring and, at the same time, charming, he is certain to put on a great show.
Tamara 12 August, 11:30 pm Jardines de las Vistillas Though still remarkably young, Tamara has claimed a place among the most outstanding ballad singers in Spanish language over the past decade. Expect a touching mood.	David Bisbal 14 August, 10:30 pm Lonja del Real, El Escorial, near Madrid If pop is your thing, here it is. Through his catchy music, David Bisbal has turned into a full-blown celebrity in Spain and this concert might be a chance to find out why.

Calé by Joaquín Cortés 11-21 August Nuevo Teatro Alcalá Fusion flamenco bailaor Joaquín Cortés offers a roundup of his career in a potpourri from his greatest productions of the past twenty years.	La caída de los dioses The Damned 25 August-23 October Matadero, Paseo de la Chopera 10 An adaptation of a classic is always ambitious, but here Slovenian dramatist Tomaz Pandur has his work well cut, with Lucchino Visconti’s masterwork as his point of reference.
Carmen Until August 28 Teatro Reina Victoria Flamenco adaptation of Bizet’s most famous opera.	El barbero de Sevilla The Barber of Seville 18-27 August, 9:30 pm Jardines Sabatini Rossini’s famous opera staged in picturesque surroundings before the Royal Palace under a fading summer sky.	El sueño de una noche de verano A Midsummer Night’s Dream Until 28 August Teatro Figaro – Adolfo Marsillach, Doctor Cortezo 5 A long-standing version of Shakespeare’s classic, filled with magic and trickery, produced by the theatre company Morboria Teatro.
Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda 28 August, 10:00 pm Jardines Sabatini The operatic staging of Torquato Tasso’s Jerusalem Delivered, it hardly matters whether it was penned by Monteverdi, Handel or Vivaldi when you watch it under a clear summer sky in the Sabatini Gardens.

Bullfights Every Sunday Plaza Las Ventas, Madrid Need you really ask? Everyone from Hemingway down has heard about the unique tradition of bullfighting in Spain – well, here’s your chance to experience it first hand.	Real Madrid v Athletic Bilbao 21 August Santiago Bernabeu Stadium La Liga, Spain’s top tier football league, starts on August 21, and the city’s biggest club, Real Madrid start their bid to dethrone fierce rivals, Barcelona, with a home game against one of the most important clubs in the country: Athletic Bilbao.	Rayo Vallecano v Mallorca 21 August Teresa Rivera Stadium, Vallecas, Madrid After 20 years of second division football, iconic club Rayo Vallecano celebrate their return to top flight football with a home opener against Mallorca.
Atlético de Madrid v Real Osasuna 28 August Vicente Calderón Stadium Historically the third largest club in the country, Atlético’s home debut against the team from Pamplona will be a test of new manager Gregorio Manzano’s popularity among the fans of a team that lives in a crisis.	Getafe v Levante 28 August Alfonso Pérez Coliseum, Getafe, near Madrid The home opener for suburban side Getafe should be a relatively simple affair, as Valencia minnows Levante face a stern task to keep their status in La Liga. A football game lasts 90 minutes, though, and the ball is round, as they say.
