The Iberian Peninsula's history dates all the way back to prehistoric settlements. This course will provide you a comprehensive view of Spain's most important civilizations. We'll pay special attention to the Roman and Arab periods, as well as the Medieval Spain of "3 cultures" when Jews, Muslims and Christians thrived peacefully. Moving on, you will study the impact of the unification of Spain under the Catholic Kings in 1492, follow Columbus' voyage to the New World and examine the history of the Hapsburg and Bourbon dynasties in some detail.
As an essential part of learning Spanish history, we will also examine the country's geography and the specific festivals, gastronomy, folklore, cinema and politics unique to different regions.
